‘Antithesis’  uses the Christian symbols of the cross and the dove, yet inverts them to make a bizarre tableau behind a pure, virginal looking face. Central to the painting is the faint image of a single-horned devil, with a suggestion of a smile that, when repeated in the heavens nearby, looks more like bats in flight. The work plays on our familiarity with religious iconography and startles us into regarding it from a different angle.
